For the next month(ish), I’m going to be counting down my Top 25 Favorite TV Shows. These are my personal favorites and are, by no means, what I consider “best” or “most culturally important”.
22. Lost 2004-2010. ABC. Created by Jeffrey Lieber, JJ Abrams & Damon Lindelof.
What Is It? Drama about the survivors of a transpacific plane crash that lands them on a tropical island that is not all that it seems.
Why I Love It Lost exists in a universe that is wholly unique which I always love in a series and it is heralded by characters who were memorable and instantaneously part of the pop-culture landscape. Even though I definitely lost interest to the point of complete aggression in the middle of the series’ run, the show definitely won me back once it regained its footing and focus. The pilot is one of the finest moments in all of television and it serves as a perfect showcase of how much television had grown in the decade that preceded it and how far even network television wanted to go to transcend the art form. Even though I think the show can be silly at times, and it is definitely not perfect, Lost’s big payoffs are incredibly satisfying.
